Phyllanthus fluitans
Phyllanthus fluitans, commonly known as red root floater, is a free-floating aquatic plant native to the Amazon Basin in South America. It belongs to the Phyllanthaceae family and is prized for its striking red undersides of roots and oval-shaped floating leaves that turn reddish to deep burgundy under intense lighting. Its growth rate is fast under favorable conditions, making it ideal for quickly establishing surface coverage in open-top aquariums or paludariums.As a floating plant, Phyllanthus fluitans occupies the surface of the aquarium and is often used to create shaded areas for fish or to reduce algae growth by limiting light penetration. It’s also appreciated for its ornamental value, particularly in aquascapes and nano tanks.
