Cuphea anagalloidea
Cuphea anagalloidea is an uncommon and visually striking stem plant, often admired for its small, rounded leaves and delicate, branching growth habit. While it is more commonly known in its terrestrial or emersed form in native South and Central American habitats, it has been adapted for aquatic cultivation—particularly in emersed setups and paludariums, but it can also survive submersed under optimal conditions. The plant’s leaves are usually light to medium green, arranged oppositely along thin, slightly woody stems. Under water, the leaves tend to be smaller and more closely spaced than in emersed growth. It can develop a compact, bushy appearance with regular trimming, encouraging side shoots and denser growth.
